Fun & Flirty Tops For All Occasions

A great solution for creating a many looks within a simple wardrobe is the addition of a few well-chosen flirty tops. Think fun. Add a well-crafted V-neck sleeveless top in bright orange to a 5-pocket white jean with strappy sandals for a casual date night. A baby-doll silhouette with conservative solid black slacks can add a flirtatous shape, and cover some stomach gains. The empire waist visually extends your height, and the V shape of the neckline adds to the illusion of a longer neck. Just make certain the top length extends below your natural waist line, ideally resting just above your hip bones.

The Magic Jacket for Cooler Evenings

One terrific solution: pair the tops with a sleek jacket. This creates a slimming silhouette, and the pop of color can help you create a look that flatters any figure and looks up to date and modern as well.

How does it work? Find a flirty little top that you love and check the length. It should be at least four inches below your belly button and end about about an inch above your jacket’s hemline. The side benefit of wearing youthful tops with a sleek jacket – hiding those trouble spots that would have otherwise been out there for the world to see.

  • Work: Black Jacket with a splash of color and high quality fabric.
  • Evening: Replace your jacket with a fabulous wrap.
  • Everyday: Pair your denim with a fabulous top and strappy sandals.

New fitness plan: a tailor

As we get older and our bodies begin to change, the fit of our clothes matters more. Most off the rack styles are made with a pre-set proportion in sizing, which may or may not match your body.

Our suggestion: make friends with a skilled tailor. Baggy items or clothing that clings too tightly never looks quite appropriate and can be fixed.

  • Invest in a high quality basic wardrobe. The pieces may cost more, but they will last longer and provide a wonderful basic canvas for updating.  Think little black dress, straight leg jeans and a classic trench coat.
  • Invest in good undergarments: the foundation affects the fit.

FASHION WARNING! Tricks Your Mind May Play On You

Even though our ntents often hit the mark, our thoughts sometimes, well…lead us awry. A common problem that leads directly to mistakes women make when they dress. The 3 most common culprits:

Thought: “Hey! I looked hot in that at thirty & it’s in great shape – and the style is coming back.”
Our Advice: DON’T DO IT! First: it’s not coming back like last time. Details and styling will be updated. Second you are not thirty anymore so the whole effect is different. And not in a good way. Just don’t do it.

Thought: “All the young girls are wearing that – I think I could get away with it, too. After all, I still have great legs/breasts/hair.”
Our Advice: DO NOT DO IT! Young girls get away with a lot because they are young. Women however, look desperate or out of the loop. Neither of which is what you want to be.

Thought: “It’s the latest thing. I’ll look like I’m in the fashion ‘know’.”
Our Advice: WATCH OUT! Just because it’s the latest does not necessarily mean it’s for you. To keep a current “in the know” look, you may just need to update accessories, or one item – like a top or skirt. Stick with shapes and silhouettes that flatter you and use the new looks to suit your needs.

Thought: “It’s soooo comfortable.” Or the variant phrase: “I won’t run into anybody – I’m just going to the grocery.” (Of course, that’s exactly when you will run into your ex husband/boss/friend/etc.) It doesn’t take much to look “put together”.
Our Advice: Take the two extra minutes before you go & you will never have to worry about wishing you had taken the time.
