Selection Criteria

Each organization is verified and checked through charitynavigator.org, America’s premier independent charity evaluator. To be selected, the organization must:

Assist women and children to “get on their feet” with a helping hand.

In keeping with Best Age Ever’s philosophy that self-respect and dignity can empower everyone, the organization must contribute to building and encouraging these. Literacy and clothing providers made our initial list. Literacy gives long-term skills that will increase opportunities and open doorways. Clothing providers encourage an immediate boost in self-esteem. Sometimes being a little more polished on the outside is all we need to see the polished person we already are on the inside.

Are rated by Charity Navigator, a third party evaluator, ensuring that the funds received go to the people in need in an efficient manner.

The President or CEO salary does not exceed $200,000 per year.

National (U.S.) or international in scope.

Who we give to

The descriptions of each charity are from their respective websites, describing their mission and results. We encourage you to go “straight to the source” and learn more about each one.

Our initial not-for-profits we will contribute to are:

 Dignity U Wear

We distribute dignity in the form of brand new clothing.  But we are not just randomly handing out clothing to people in need.  Our goal is to distribute clothing in a way that maximizes the impact that clothing has on lives.  So we collaborate with other great social service agencies on projects and programs where the clothing is given to people at the right time – the first day of school, in coordination with medical care, before a for a job interview…

Dignity was founded in 2000 by an extraordinary person; philanthropist and Holocaust survivor, Henri Landwirth.  “I know what it means to stripped of personal dignity,” he says, “to not have clothes of one’s own and to give up all hope.  When I see people suffering indignities, I know we have to help: and through Dignity U Wear, we do.”

Dress for Success

Dress for Success Worldwide is an international non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of women located in 110 cities across 12 countries. The professional clothing, employment retention programs and ongoing support that we provide our clients symbolize our faith in every woman’s ability to be self-sufficient and successful in her career.

 Other Worthy Causes

There are many, many wonderful organizations that make a difference, and we wish we could support them all. At the very least, we’d like to mention a  few we’ve come across. Please contact us with recommendations that you may have.

Room to Read

We envision a world in which all children can pursue a quality education, reach their full potential and contribute to their community and the world.

To achieve this goal, we focus on two areas where we believe we can have the greatest impact: literacy and gender equality in education.  We work in collaboration with communities and local governments across Asia and Africa to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the life skills they’ll need to succeed in school and beyond.

Building with Books (BwB)

Building with Books (BwB) runs out-of-school programs that empower American youth through intensive community service work while they build schools in developing countries. BwB achieves its mission thanks to a team of many dedicated student and adult volunteers, project coordinators, teachers and BwB staff who commit themselves to learning about others and themselves through cultural education, community service activities and sponsorship events.

National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL)

Literacy is at the root of a person’s ability to succeed, and the family is at the heart.

We are the National Center for Family Literacy, and since 1989, we have helped more than 1 million families make educational and economic progress by pioneering – and continuously improving – family literacy programs.

Our emphasis is on family literacy for a simple reason – study after study shows that family, home and community are the true drivers of a child’s education.

National Domestic Violence Hotline

The National Domestic Violence Hotline creates access by providing 24-hour support through advocacy, safety planning, resources and hope to everyone affected by domestic violence.

Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN)

RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization and was named one of “America’s 100 Best Charities” by Worth magazine. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE and online.rainn.org) in partnership with more than 1,100 local rape crisis centers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense.
